In June 2022, Berlin hosted the Special Olympics National Games, a significant test event leading up to the Special Olympics World Games in 2023. Entrusted by mediapool Veranstaltungsgesellschaft mbH, the agency responsible for organizing the opening and closing ceremonies, I assumed responsibility for the production on the iconic Straße des 17. Juni in Berlin. The event featured the construction of an impressive stage for the celebratory closing ceremony, which not only marked the culmination of the National Games but also served as an inspiring preview of the upcoming international competition. The event site was expansive, incorporating a 5 km cycling track that played a central role in the games. In addition to the main events, side events held on the stage at the Brandenburg Gate captured the spirit of the Special Olympics, showcasing teamwork and enthusiasm. As production and technical lead, I coordinated all aspects of the event, including the venue and the cycling track, ensuring the seamless integration of logistics, technical infrastructure, and safety protocols. The scale and significance of the event demanded precise coordination of various elements, from the stage construction to the cycling track logistics and the execution of additional activities. Through meticulous planning and efficient management, the Special Olympics National Games successfully delivered a memorable and inspiring experience for athletes, participants, and spectators alike.
